The San Mateo County Historical Association is pleased to announce that the 2024 History Maker will be Martin Yan. Mr. Yan is an accomplished restauranteur, author, philanthropist and of course chef. His famous TV series Yan Can Cook! first aired in 1982, and he’s taught millions to understand and cook Chinese food.
In 2020, we attempted to honor Chef Yan, but the pandemic prevented hosting an in-person event. Chef Yan has graciously agreed to participate again this year, and as part of the fun, will give a cooking demonstration in the hotel ballroom. Anyone who has seen Chef Yan, either live or on television, knows he is a terrific entertainer.
The San Mateo County Historical Association interprets and celebrates the lives and contributions of immigrants that have brought us so much. The Peninsula’s Chef Yan is an obvious choice as honoree.
The San Mateo County History Makers Dinner will take place at the Marriot Waterfront Hotel in Burlingame on Thursday September 19. The evening will begin at 6:00 p.m. with a hosted cocktail reception, followed by dinner, a brief live auction, a special film created by the Historical Association, and Chef Yan’s cooking demonstration.
