Redwood City’s Historic Resources Advisory Committee will conduct a tour of historic sites including the place where Wyatt Earp used to drink and where President Hoover once slept. The tour will begin at the Lathrop House, 627 Hamilton Street, and will last approximately 90 minutes.
Pacifica Saturday, August 9 at 7 p.m.
The Pacifica Historical Society will lead an evening tour that begins at the corner of Montecito and Beach Boulevard. During a tour of historic buildings of the central Sharp Park area, view the historic “castle,” walk past the Little Brown Church and stroll along the promenade. The Half Moon Bay tour will meet at the Harbormaster’s Office at Pillar Point Harbor for a tour highlighting the history of the harbor, commercial fishing and the fishing vessel Irene.
El Granada Sunday, August 17 at 10 a.m.
“Reaches the Beaches” was the advertising slogan of the old Ocean Shore Railroad. The tour starts at the old Ocean Shore Railroad Station at 10151 Cabrillo Highway, and includes some of the arc shaped streets of El Granada. A short introduction to Daniel Burnham, the landscape architect, and his Burnham Plan Map will start the tour. The walk will pass a few older craftsman style homes, the former Granada Hotel, tree-lined boulevards and some sweeping views of the ocean.
Pescadero: Pie Ranch Sunday, August 24 at 10:30 a.m.
Come learn about the historic ranch that Isaac Steele and family built in the 1860s near the point at Año Nuevo. The homestead, with its Greek revival architecture, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Local Pescadero historian, Greg Timm, will lead an entertaining, fast paced history tour of Pescadero, Sunday afternoon, August 24. The event will run from 1 p.m. until at least 3 p.m., and will begin at the historic Native Sons Community Hall. Following a brief overview of history, the walk will begin at the southern end of Stage Road and will proceed through Pescadero, ending where Juan Jose Gonzales' adobe once stood. In 1962, Daly City’s Westlake District inspired Malvina Reynolds’ famous anti-suburban folk song “Little Boxes.” Recently, Westlake has been recognized as one of America’s most iconic postwar suburbs. Starting at Westlake Elementary School Main Entrance, 80 Fieldcrest Drive, join author Rob Keil on a walking tour through Westlake and learn the fascinating “rags to riches” story of developer Henry Doelger, whose sense of style gave birth to this classic neighborhood.
