Woodside Store School Program
3300 Tripp Road, Woodside
Program
Discover life in the 1880s. The program starts with a slide show that introduces the redwood industry and the Tripp family. Then, students explore the shelves of a country store during an object hunt. Students soon discover that many of the items in Dr. Tripp’s store have been replaced by items using electricity.
The hands-on history program features three activity stations. In Dr. Tripp’s absence, kids act as storekeeper and fill customer’s store orders. Taking the role of loggers, students use a two-man saw to cut redwood and make a shingle. Then, they learn about chores in the days before electricity as they do the laundry by hauling water, using a washboard and wringer, and hanging clothes on the line to dry. Details
